The historic village of Écaussinnes-Lalaing is dominated by this castle, built on a rock in the 12th century. The castle played a strategic role in the Région du Center, an often disputed area between France and the Low Countries. In World War I, the Germans maintained a barracks, prison, ammunition depot and hospital there. In the restored castle, historical furniture and weapons can be seen, in addition to a dungeon, a Gothic chapel and a 15th-century kitchen.
