The Rosenbergersäge was built by businessman, magistrate, councilor and parliamentarian Franz Xaver Rosenberg. The saw was in operation until 1913, then it was slowly removed. Until 1933, however, water power was used to generate electricity. It was the first electricity supplier for the town of Eberhardsreuth.
Before that, Karl Hoyer lived here, "the current owner of the saw tells me," Karl was the ferryman here, he transported the hikers from one side of the Ilz to the other for a mark, because the bridge, which now makes it very easy to cross the stream, gave it wasn't back then. Anyone who wanted to photograph the carter with his barge also had to pay a mark. ”With the words“ Fährmann hol über ”you could call the ferryman at the time and he came with his wooden barge.
Karl Hoyer lived in the Rosenbergersäge from 1952 until his death in 2006. He loved solitude and lived there as a hermit. After various war experiences, he loved the seclusion and nature at the saw. At that time there was no electricity there. He spent his free time reading books. In addition to cows, he also kept chickens and bees. He sold the vegetables from his garden and the honey once a week at the market in Passau, and he brought the groceries there by bicycle.
