The vulcano that destroyed ancient Pompeii in 79 AD: Italian national park centered on the active volcano Vesuvius, west of Naples. Founded in 1995 it covers an area of around 135 km². It is centered on the active volcano and its most ancient (now inactive) crater, Monte Somma. It houses 612 plant species and 227 animal species. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vesuvius_National_Park
You can drive up near the rim and hike around the crater, some of it still steaming with active heat and vulcanic gases. Great vistas of all the surrounding areas that have been covered in ashes by previous eruptions over thousands of years, including Napoli and Pompeii.
