"The Furkel" is a 1789 meter high mountain pass in the Dolomites. It connects the villages of Olang in Val Pusteria and St. Vigil in Enneberg in South Tyrol and thus also marks the historical language border between German and Ladin-speaking areas in the Dolomites. The 19-kilometer-long pass road is a highlight for racing bike fans with an average gradient of twelve percent and has often been part of the Giro d'Italia. It is also part of the Transalp route, where the Alps can be crossed by bike. The pass is also open in winter.
