The oak trees are a proven high-court execution site of the former Reichsvogtei Werd - today Donauwörth - whose main town Merdingen was today's Mertingen. The jurisdiction concerned serious crimes such as murder, emergency breeding, arson or theft in the area of the Reichsvogtei.
