Square Théodore-Botrel: The free-standing bell tower (18th century) is a remnant of the former church. A monument reminds of the famous poet-chansonneur Botrel.

La Vieille Tour is the bell tower of the old church of Paimpol; before the Revolution, Paimpol was a trève (branch) of the parish of Plounez. The church and the surrounding cemetery then depended on the Lord of Kerraoul. On Christmas Eve, he received a roast goose and two bottles of wine there before attending midnight mass.

The church existed from the 14th century; but the wing stone bell tower was built in the 16th century and surmounted by a spire between 1760 and 1780. At the base of the tower one can notice pillars cut in a green volcanic rock: the spilite of Paimpol. The surrounding cemetery was abandoned. The church was demolished during the 1914-18 war, with the exception of the bell tower preserved thanks to the intervention of Armand Dayot (1851-1934), Inspector of Fine Arts born in Paimpol, who obtained its classification in 1916.

Opposite the Old Tower stands a monument built in 1928 in memory of Théodore Botrel (1868-1925), author of the famous song “La Paimpolaise” written in 1895. ville-paimpol.fr/vieille -tower/
