High above the valley, at 1,245 m above sea level, sits the parish church of Katharinaberg.
Katharinaberg is very romantically located on a high rock, where the Senales valley widens again. Schnalsburg, which gave the valley its name, once stood on the square where Katharinaberg's parish church now sits. In 1350 the castle was demolished by the Carthusians, only the old castle tower remained, which today serves as a bell tower. The first chapel was built on this site around 1500 and was only expanded to its current dimensions in 1748 in the Romanesque style.
The tranquil village life in Katharinaberg awaits you with a fantastic view over the Schnals and Adige valleys, all the way to Juval Castle, the summer residence of the well-known extreme mountaineer Reinhold Messner.
From here you can directly reach the entrance to the Meraner Höhenweg and the Texelgruppe Nature Park is just waiting to be explored.
