The former collegiate church was declared a monument in 1930. Since 1851, the Colegiate Santa Cruz acts as a parish church. Built in the 12th century, it was part of a monastery that was built in the 10th century. In the Middle Ages, the village was a hub of important roads and pilgrimage routes to Santiago and Oviedo. Particularly noteworthy are the unfortunately heavily weathered, decorated with lions, snakes and geometric motifs pillar capitals.

The Collegiate Church of Santa Cruz is located in the Bº/ de Socobio (Castañeda). It dates from the first half of the 12th century, its construction lasting until the beginning of the 13th century, and it is one of the best-known examples of religious architecture in Cantabria. Church with a single nave with a transept and three apses (the southern one has disappeared) adorned with beautiful windows, and it is one of the 4 existing Romanesque collegiate churches in Cantabria, together with Santillana del Mar, San Pedro de Cérvatos and San Martin de Elines
