The name "Vielohmoor" is derived from the Low German words *vie* ("marsh") and *loh* ("grove"). Accordingly, *Vieloh* means "swamp forest." An 18th-century map shows that the area was heavily wooded.[1] Today, the marshy Vieloh meadows occupy the site of the former moor.
The Vielohmoor was a moor in what is now Hamburg-Schnelsen, which existed as early as the Neolithic period.
