The Aue-Oker Canal was once created to protect Wendeburg from flooding. The canal leads part of the water out of the Aue in front of Wendeburg and leads it under the federal highway 214 through to the Oker. It also transports part of the treated wastewater from the secondary clarification ponds to the Oker.
