Statue of the Good Shepherd

Interesantte Statue am Berg

Below the Chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows there is a statue of a shepherd. It is not accessible and was completely overgrown at the base.

The depiction of Jesus as the "GOOD SHEPHERD" seen here in a prominent position goes back to the words of Jesus Christ recorded in the Gospel of John: "I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. But the hired servant, who is not a shepherd and to whom the sheep do not belong, abandons the sheep and flees when he sees the wolf coming; and the wolf tears them apart and scatters them. He flees because he is only a hired servant and does not care about the sheep. I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me, as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep. I have other sheep that are not of this fold; I must lead them too, and they will obey my voice; then there will be one flock and one shepherd." (John 10)
