The district of Ruhlsdorf was first mentioned in 1285 as Ruelsdorff. Fluctuations in spelling, for example, produced "Ruhelsdorff" in 1534.
Belonging to Magdeburg until 1680, this year it is part of Prussia. Economically, the place was never very strong.
Until 1916 Ruhlsdorf was a parish in Luckenwalde, then an independent parish. In the village there is a neo-Gothic brick church. This was inaugurated on October 24, 1904.
Since July 1, 1992, Ruhlsdorf has been the seat of the former official and now municipal administration of Nuthe-Urstromtal.
