Santa Maria de Fenals d'Amunt Church

The church of Santa Maria de Fenals d'Amunt is one of the oldest in the Baix Empordà, with news of it dating back to the year 968. It has a single nave, finished off on the east with a semicircular apse, decorated with six bands and five ensembles. blind arches and a small round arched window. The nave is covered with a barrel vault.

Due to the loss of importance of the population of Fenals d'Amunt, far from the most productive lands of the Vall d'Aro, the church suffered a progressive abandonment. This was further aggravated by the earthquake at the beginning of the 14th century, when a section of the barrel vault collapsed.

In 1996 it was acquired by the Santa Cristina d'Aro town hall, which was in charge of its restoration.
