Descent to Poschiavo

One of the most famous descents in Switzerland, which is even officially signposted. A fun trail takes you from the Bernina Pass to Poschiavo and follows the tracks of the Rhaetian Railway (the "Bernina Express") for quite a while, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and which you can use as a "shuttle" to travel from Poschiavo back to Pontresina or Chur.

The trail is Route 673 or Bernina express, which runs from Samedan in the Engadin to here. While the route to Ospizio Bernina is relatively gentle, the descent from Alp Grüm to Poschavio is much more demanding. There is a lot of S2 here, and in places (also depending on the weather) S3. The railway line is crossed again and again (be careful). If you drive smoothly, you will be at the Poschavio train station earlier if you take the train at the same time. One of the reasons for this is that the train has to cover a longer distance for the slightly more than 1000 meters of depth, since it cannot travel this direct line. Enjoy, can be quite busy in high season. For the possible return trip by train, it should be said that the actual Bernina Express does not transport bicycles, only the "normal" train does.

What's left to tell? Fantastic trail with some challenging sections where good brakes are needed. Also, lots of hikers - so start early and/or go on weekdays.
