At the centre of Blackheath is a circular pavement ‘compsss’ which marks the four sections of the Heath with their respective names - Church Field, West Kent Field, Lincoln Field and The Old Donkey Pit (the donkeys were moved to the main gates of Greenwich Park but the rides have since stopped).
From the centre Compass paths branch in four directions which indirectly lead to the four ponds on Blackheath.
