Franck-Haus - Baroque town house and "champagne cradle"

In addition to the venerable parish church of St. Laurentius Marktheidenfeld, the Franck-Haus is the greatest art-historical sight.
Franz Valentin Franck (1702 - 1777), a wealthy wine merchant and merchant with wide-ranging trade relationships, built this building in 1745 by widening two existing half-timbered houses facing the street and the courtyard and combining them with the development of the courtyard access to one building. Since then, the building has been dominated by the show facade.
The buildings arranged around the inner courtyard served the different uses of a wine trading company on the ground floor, the rooms above were mainly used for residential purposes. The old wine cellar can be reached from the courtyard. Around 1767 Franz Valentin Franck sold his property. It is not certain whether the ballroom on the first floor was redesigned before 1767 or only under his immediate successors, the Schatz, Firmbach and Schulz families.
The wine merchant Johann Georg Andreas Schulz (1735 - 1809) deserves special mention among the owners following Franz Valentin Franck. The tradition is linked to him that sparkling wine production in Germany was invented in this house.
