The lake is 1.8 km long, 0.9 km wide and 5.6 m deep at its lowest point. The area is 1.47 km2. It lies at an altitude of 215 m above sea level. This is the Leuchtenburg on Lake Caldaro.
The exact dating of the edification is uncertain, often called the period between 1200 and 1250; The South Tyrolean Castle Institute even assumes that it was created before 1200. Recent dating attempts suggest the first half of the 14th century.
Since 1610, the Leuchtenburg is uninhabited and decayed gradually. In the 20th century, the masonry was preserved.
