It was built as a windmill in 1684. It belonged to the Oberhof in Lenthe. Even without the wings, the mill building is still clearly recognizable today.
"In 1860, builders replaced the post mill in Harenberg, which probably dates from 1704 (which was probably the successor to an even older wooden mill), with a massive Dutch mill with a gallery and rotating head.
In 1946, the building unfortunately lost its wings, the compass rose and the gallery; a motor replaced the wind power. Flour was then milled until 1974 and then the milling operation was stopped."
