Tips

If you like a little more thrill and have the right equipment with you, then you can climb the Hölderstein on the via ferrata - the only one on the WesterwaldSteig. The route is around 300 meters long. Along the way, cramps, stirrups, pegs, ladders and a bridge will help you to overcome the 80 meter difference in altitude. All further information can be found here: puderbacher-land.de/klettersteig-am-hoelderstein.

If you don't know any other via ferrata, this one is very appealing. The route is very short, however, because experienced hikers can climb through within 5 minutes. Could be an interesting introduction to climbing for families with children.

During the breeding season the via ferrata is closed to protect the animals and the hiker. But it just works

Be sure to hike in the right direction.
The trail is unsuitable for dogs, but can be bypassed

Please note ..... at the time we went over the via ferrata, it was actually closed. But we couldn't see that down at the entrance, we only saw the sign when we were through. 😢😊

During the breeding season the via ferrata is closed to protect the animals and the hiker. But can be avoided.

Whether you want to climb properly (with climbing equipment) or take the easier route without climbing equipment, you will be rewarded with the view of the Grenzbach valley after the ascent.

Sturdy shoes, sure-footedness, a head for heights are a must here

Currently a one-way street from bottom to top.
But it's always fun. Easily manageable even without equipment.

Currently closed until summer due to species protection (see above breeding season). Bypassing was also very nice ...

A very nice via ferrata, ideal for the older children, but unfortunately closed.

It's just fun. It's only small, but okay. Even without equipment. Currently a one-way street from bottom to top.

Exciting section of the trail on the Westerwaldsteig. Not particularly demanding, but a head for heights is a must!
