This is a so-called murder stone. Here a money messenger was ambushed and killed. In 1562 a money messenger from a Sachsenberg carter was on the way from Sachsenberg via Korbach to Mengeringhausen; In Korbach, a Curdt Stracken from Goddelsheim offered himself as a guide across the Rotenberg, where he insidiously killed the messenger and robbed him of his belongings; the corpse is said to have been buried in the Berndorfer Kirchhof, whereupon the painting stone was immediately placed on the site of the crime; the murderer was beheaded on September 20, 1563 in Marburg.
