View of Ben Bhraggie and The Mannie from Golspie Beach

Apart from the wonderful view over the coast along Golspie, you can see "The Mannie" on the Ben Bhraggie in the background. Why is that so important or important? Because it's about the Duke of Sutherland, who lived in Dunrobbin Castle and played an unsightly role in the Highland Clearences (like every large landowner in Scotland). In fact, you can see the "THING" for miles before and after. Anyone who hikes here, like us, or who is traveling on the route by car, should deal with the history of the Clearences. This is the only way to understand what makes people tick here today.

A trip to Golspie and a hike up Ben Bhraggie to the monument to the 1st Duke of Sutherland are highly recommend. Even if you don't do the climb to the monument, take a walk along the beach or promenade and look up to see the Duke looking over you.
