Family-friendly rooms, easy hiking trails and a breathtaking panorama - the Sudetendeutsche Hut will be remembered for a long time by children and adults. Both the approach to the hut and most of the further routes to the surrounding three-thousand-meter peaks are also suitable for children. The cozy family rooms with four to five beds are a real pleasure after a long day of hiking, but they should definitely be booked in advance as the hut is very popular in summer! The hut is open from the end of June to mid-September, but the winter room in the basement is also open outside these times. I was there in 1967 with a youth group. We climbed from Kals am Großglockner to the Hochtor, then hiked on to the hut. From there we were still on the little Muntanitz.
The special thing that I remember:
To our equipment we had a long, heavy hemp rope. Also, due to a low budget, a large pot of potato salad for dinner. This was then inedible in the evening.
On the second day we descended to the Dorfer valley, and hiked back to the camp in Kals.
Great story and nice memories.
