The Reuterstein is located directly at the intersection Neu Kaliß - Liepe and Alt Kaliß - Neu Göhren between the villages Kaliß and Neu Göhren. The Reuterstein is a monument to Fritz Reuter built from erratic blocks and is intended to commemorate a special moment in the life of the Mecklenburg poet. Because after he was released from his seven-year, most recently spent in Dömitz, fortress custody on August 25, 1840, Reuter and his dog Schüten stood at the crossroads in the early morning of the day with the question: "Yes, whoever way was de right?" .

The later highly successful Low German writer Fritz Reuter describes this situation and the question of the “right” way, the right “where to?” In his work “Ut mine Festungstid” (1861). Reuter friends put this striking monument in the form of the "Reuterstein" on the path described in the book in the Griesen area near Kaliss in 1885 for Fritz Reuter, the German writer. By the way, a boulder on the east side of the memorial commemorates the aforementioned dog Schüten, which was a gift from the daughters of the Fortress Commandant from Dömitz for Fritz Reuter's 29th birthday.

Until 1928, folk festivals were held annually on the Reuterstein. For several years now, this tradition has been brought back to life on the first Sunday in September.
