A wonderfully lumpy mountain at the bottom of the Arenigs, you’ll find plenty of character-packed hikes up Rhobell Fawr. While this Hewitt doesn’t meet the height of Snowdonia’s big names, its intriguing terrain and excellent views keep its name firmly on the map.
You can start from a few spots with ease, depending on whether you want to add its craggy neighbour, Dduallt, into the mix or not. A popular starting point is the end of the minor road south-south-east of the summit. Hiking up Rhobell Fawr is an uneven affair with rocky outcrops, grassy pastures and fantastic stone walls with ladder stiles. In contrast, the summit is relatively smooth.
Hiking Rhobell Fawr’s slopes is highly enjoyable and the summit views on a clear day are worth their weight in gold. South, Cadair Idris stands tall while the Rhinogs dominate the north east. Further north, Snowdon and her retinue stew quietly on the horizon. This is a summit of outstanding views.
Hike up Rhobell Fawr year round but bear in mind that winter has changeable weather and sometimes snow. Hikes here can get very boggy in or after wet weather so wear sturdy shoes.
Beautiful but remote stone trig pointed Nuttall summit on one of the Arenigs more remote tops. Quite a nice all round walk.

A great summit as it feels so remote and stands alone. Fine 360 degree views of the Snowdonia national park. A great trail run from Llanfachreth.
