Hiking

Lonscale Fell is often missed by hikers whose sights are set firmly on Skiddaw. But Lonscale Fell makes for a great walk in it's own right, especially when hiked alongside Latrigg from Keswick. Whilst the top is quite flat and broad, the profile of Lonscale Fell from a distance is quite dramatic thanks to the crags on the eastern side of the mountain.

Hiking

A short detour can be made to this Wainwright when walking Skiddaw. Cutting off from the path is easy and you can follow fence posts to its summit. Once reached its a 180 turn and Skiddaw is directly in front of you. Follow the fence again to eventually rejoind the path.

Hiking

If your doing the Skiddaw Group which has eight Wainwrights, it is only a short detour out and back to get Lonscale Fell. You also get a nice view of where you have been all day as it is the last one...unless you are knocking off Latrigg as the last one at the bottom of the hill.
