A very beautiful old half-timbered house that once served as a town hall. It has beautiful carvings in the wooden beams and a great color scheme!

The building was built in 1562 as the town hall of Gifhorn. To impress travelers and traders on the highways leading through Gifhorn, it was decorated with magnificent wood carvings. The upper floor housed the offices and a banquet hall, while the ground floor housed the Ratskeller, also known at times as the Ratskrug. It was leased to the highest bidder for a few years at a time. The building was sold in 1843. The restaurant has been run by various owners since then.
