This “designed” municipal building, classified as a public civil heritage of Wallonia, contrasts very clearly with the traditional volumes it stands next to, and is inspired by neoclassicism. It was built between 1864 and 1873 according to plans by the architect Bouvrie. The façade is made of granite cut from Ecaussines stone. It is flanked by an impressive double flight staircase that replaces the monumental staircase.

Saint-Hubert describes itself as the European capital of hunting and nature. No wonder, as it is surrounded by wide, deep forests. The town was named after St. Hubertus of Liège, whose bones were brought here from Liège in 825. The Gothic basilica of St. Peter and Paul with its baroque facade and the magnificent monastery complex towers over the town. It houses the book of Hubertus, the patron saint of the hunters, who is called in the case of rabies, and the Hubertus key, which was used to treat rabies.
