Hiking

The "Northern Lowland" nature reserve stretches across the entire northwestern coast of Fehmarn. It extends from Lake Fastensee north of Bojendorf across the Markelsdorfer Huk to the Grüner Brink, and includes the many inland lakes. Its unique location and diverse flora make it an important breeding and habitat area for rare terns, wading birds, and reed dwellers. The Northern Lowland is off-limits, but you can enjoy particularly good views of the landscape and the birdlife that live there from the observation tower at the Markelsdorfer Huk and from the dike.
