The largest of the three beach lakes is surrounded by dense reeds and old beech forests. The lake is only accessible in a few places.
With a little luck you can see eagles hunting and goosanders during their brood business.

Long ago, the legendary pirate Klaus Störtebecker was said to have been hiding here. At that time the Great Inland Lake still had open access to the Baltic Sea, which only silted up later. His ships were able to access the lake via this, the ships were then pulled ashore and hidden in the forest. So his ships were not to be seen from the sea side and his hunters searched in vain.

Sediments such as sand and gravel are removed by abrasion at another point and deposited here by sedimentation. This is how typical balancing coasts with dunes, wide sandy beaches and lagoons or spits are created.
