The old half-timbered castle is located on the edge of the Burgdorf city park. Today it is used as the administrative building of the city of Burgdorf (the city council meets in the large meeting room of the castle). The castle can be visited and from time to time classical castle concerts take place there. Not as big and imposing as other castles (for example Celle or Gifhorn).

A relatively small building for a castle, but its half-timbered construction is beautiful and very well restored.

From 1714 to 1885 the castle was the seat of the district captain, was later used by the district of Burgdorf and was extensively renovated from 1979. The Aue, which used to run around the palace, now flows along it to the south.
