The crazy stripped hues of pinks, orange, gold, and grey were created by centuries of copper mining on Parys Mountain. During the 18th century, the area was heavily mined, leaving behind deposits of sulphur, vitriol, alum and ochre which have created this unique landscape.

There's a museum on site which features on the European Route of Industrial Heritage through the area.
