In 1370, the Lords of Künßberg built a "solid" house on the basalt cone of Bärenstein (or Bernstein), from which the present-day castle later developed. It was not until 1764 and 1793 that the lord of the castle had a settlement of 11 "drip houses" built here for his servants, from which the present-day town of Wernstein developed.

It is not for nothing that Burg Wernstein, with its numerous towers and details, is one of the most beautiful castle complexes in Upper Franconia. The castle was built between 1362 and 1376 and has been owned by the von Künsberg family for over 600 years. A visit from the inside is not possible, but it is also an absolutely worth seeing splendor from the outside.

Beautiful, relatively large castle, in the inner courtyard of which parties/weddings are often celebrated. However, most of the castle is not in particularly good condition.
