The siding wasn't laid until 1957.
When the "Höpfenbach" stop was renamed "Ahrensburg Ost" in 1952, the station was given its current name, "Ahrensburg West," to avoid confusion.
The station is a good starting point for a tour to Bredenbeker Teich or the Stellmoor-Ahrensburger Tunneltal nature reserve.
