During the game feeding (December - April) you can sometimes see up to 50 hinds, fawns and red deer. The feeding takes place to protect the mountain forest, since the red deer can no longer migrate to the foothills of the Alps due to the settlements and would thus cause damage caused by browsing and peeling.

The wild feeding in the Klausbachtal takes place during the winter months.
As soon as winter sets in, the game comes by itself from the higher regions to the 45-hectare piece of land in the Berchtesgaden National Park.

The whole thing is not organized to offer guests another attraction. The red deer is a draft animal and would actually migrate to the floodplain forest in winter. Since this is not possible in the Berchtesgadener Land, there is wild feeding. As soon as spring arrives, the 25 gates are opened and the deer retreat back into the wild.
