The Emmen - Weerdinge section was used for freight transport until 1972 and was only broken up from the level crossing in Wolfsbergenweg in the late 1970s. The rails from the station to the road remain as part of the railway yard. After the railway has broken up, the route up to the former loading and unloading site Weerdinge forms an unpaved walking path with a lot of gravel. The path runs through the Emmerdennen and connects to various other hiking trails. A small part of the route is used as Gravenveldweg.
