Thousands of kilometers of power lines cut through our cultural landscape. If a line is interrupted, all wheels stand still. Nevertheless, this power pole is out of line, lets others do its work and relaxes with relish.

Is he a hero or an irresponsible idler? What if everyone did? On the other hand, do the “functioning” uniform power poles offer an attractive alternative? Will the mast rejoin the ranks after his break or will he drop out for good?

The work of art is a tongue-in-cheek metaphor for our meritocracy. It is about the role of the individual in the system. How much space does it leave us, how much space do we take for a self-determined life, which also includes leisure and reflection, in addition to professional and social constraints?

Incidentally, the dormant power pole is a reminder of the devastating side effects of our civilisation's high energy requirements, an existential problem of the present.
