The last person to be executed here was the 45-year-old sexton Martin Hofer from Reinhartshausen. For crimes such as multiple adultery, incestuous lifestyle, having children out of wedlock, breaking into the offertory box and more, he was put to death by the sword at the execution site in Burgwalden in 1761.
He was not hanged - the sign says: "he was pardoned by the sword".
