If the visibility is good, you can even see the town of Quakenbrück in Artland, as far as Dümmer See or Cloppenburg! The 18 meter (exactly 17.35 m) high tower, which is presented on a small hill, is considered a symbol of the elevation of Lohne to the city. In 1908 it was built by the Beautification Association, the forerunner of today's Heimatverein, as a visible sign of the new dignity. It was extensively renovated in 1996, and today the beautiful piece of Lohner history is a listed building. Incidentally, in winter the hill of the observation tower is a popular meeting place for children, because then the small hill is transformed into a toboggan run!
