On this page we would like to introduce you to our church in Penkun. Let us begin with the history of the building. After its eventful history, the Penkun town church was built from 1858 to 1862 as a brick building in the neo-Gothic style. A church in Penkun is mentioned for the first time in 1261. We don't know when it was built and of course we don't know what it looked like. The Penkun church has been severely damaged by fire 7 times over the centuries. In 1854 the church was completely destroyed by a large fire in the city.

The organ was finished in 1863 and was built by master organ builder Barnim Grüneberg (Stettin). It was badly damaged during World War II. The great-grandson of its builder was able to completely restore it in 1959 and replace the front pipes. The organ was first inspected in 1863 by the organist at the time, Carl Löwe, who worked at St. Jakobi in Stettin until 1866.

The old altarpiece, a copy of the original from the Stettin Church of St. Gertrude, showing the waving Peter, is attached to the gallery. The new design of the chancel in the course of the renovation in 1962 was carried out by the church painter Lothar Mannewitz (Rostock), who also created the new altar cross.
