You can see the tower from afar and know that you are at Friedberg. Incidentally, the tower has three functions: water tower, observation tower and memorial for victims of the wars.

The watch tower, inaugurated on June 20, 1928 and designed by the government building officer August Metzger, combines three functions in one building: water tower, memorial and observation tower. Up until 1802, one of Friedberg's medieval watchtowers, the Mainzer Watchtower, stood on the Wartberg. With a height of 38 meters, the octagonal tower built of reinforced concrete at the highest point in the city is also an important landmark alongside the Adolf tower and the tower of the town church. The free-sculptural monumentality of the complex, which seems to be influenced by an expressionist understanding of form, is probably due to its function as a memorial. The hall on the ground floor was intended from the outset as a hall of honor for those who died in World War I; as such it was inaugurated in 1932. Later, the commemoration of the fallen of the Second World War was added. Until 2011, wreaths were laid in the Hall of Honor every year on the Day of Mourning. On the east side facing the street, it is adorned with the 45 m² city coat of arms created by the sculptor Hugo Siegler, which is one of the largest in Germany.
