Montzen is one of the older rural centers in the Herver Land. The first documentary mention comes from April 21, 1076, when King Heinrich IV donated the bailiffs of Lontzen, Walhorn and Mesch (near Montzen) to the Marienstift in Aachen. The Hochbank Montzen was one of the five administrative centers in the Duchy of Limburg until 1795.
The St. Stephanuskirche was built in 1780.

The water castle Streversdorp, whose beginnings go back to the 13th century, is worth seeing. Baron Caspar Anton van der Heyden, Prime Minister of the Electorate of Cologne, who was later elevated to the rank of count and henceforth called himself Caspar Anton von Belderbusch, came from here. After this appointment, the vernacular referred to the aristocratic seat as "Schloss Graf". Belderbusch Castle, also belonging to the family and located in the immediate vicinity of the railway facilities, was destroyed in the Second World War by a direct hit by an aerial bomb. Trout ponds for recreational anglers are now laid out next to Streversdorp Castle.
Worth mentioning is the Wasserburg von Broich, the seat of the manor of the same name before 1796 and owned by the Barons von Broich until 1913 and again since 1963.

The small village of Montzen is located in the vast green municipality of Plombières, in the highly symbolic region of the Three Frontiers.
With its bandstand, fountain, monument to the victims of the two wars, old houses and church, whose baroque interior is listed as a monument, the largest square in the region forms a beautiful, homogeneous architectural whole. Its castles, of which the Streverstrop Castle is the most famous, are evidence of a past rich in history.
Beautiful walks to the various hamlets allow you to discover new panoramas, especially on the Te Berg.
