Mountain Biking Highlight
... in addition to good gastronomy, the "Gocklwirt am Weinberg" offers all sorts of "art and clutter" - compiled by Anton Ritz in the 1960s - the largest art clock in the world - "The World Clock" - is the highlight of the collection. The art clock was built between 1879 and 1881 by the farmer's son Josef Greß from Drosendorf in the Upper Palatinate. He worked on this work for almost three years and during this time completely isolated himself from humanity. During this time, his brother Baptist Greß provided material and food. The result is a 5 meter wide and 3 meter high clock with a weight of 1250 kg. It has 50 handmade figures and is composed of over 470 gears and individual parts. 14 clock faces adorn the clock which shows the times of the largest cities in Europe as well as the date, month and leap years. The watch is still fully functional and is regularly demonstrated. [Info Gocklwirt]
