The steamship (built in Auckland in 1883) was used as a passenger ship and freighter between Wellington and Nelson. In 1928 she was dismantled and towed to Wairau Bay, where she would still serve as a breakwater. She didn't reach her destination, instead the wreck is rusting away here.
