The "nose in the wind" is a viewing platform on the Tiefenrother Höhe (552 meters), which offers hikers on the Rothaarsteig a wonderful view in a northwesterly direction to the Siegerland. Ideal location to pause for a few minutes, to unwind - or to nibble on the provisions. Underground, the 1931-built Rudersdorfer Tunnel, a railway tunnel of the Dill range with more than two and a half kilometers in length, runs here. In the tunnel runs the border between Hesse and NRW, the Hessian part of the building is designated as a cultural monument.

Below the Tiefenrother height is also something going on. Far below ... about 177 m.
Here, the Rudersdorf Tunnel runs as the longest railway tunnel in North Rhine-Westphalia on a length of 2651 m.
Completed in 1915 and not very cheap with construction costs of about 30,000,000 marks.
A special feature was the construction of a cable car from the north portal over the Tiefenrother Höhe to the south portal.
Further information is provided by the board near the viewing platform.
