The "nose in the wind" is a viewing platform on the Tiefenrother Höhe (552 meters), which offers hikers on the Rothaarsteig a wonderful view in north-westerly direction of the Siegerland. The ideal location to pause for a few minutes, to unwind - or to nibble on the provisions. The Rudersdorfer Tunnel, built in 1915, runs underground here, a railway tunnel on the Dill route with a length of more than two and a half kilometers. The border between Hesse and North Rhine-Westphalia runs in the tunnel, the Hessian part of the structure is designated as a cultural monument.

Below the Tiefenrother height is also something going on. Far below ... about 177 m.
Here, the Rudersdorf Tunnel runs as the longest railway tunnel in North Rhine-Westphalia on a length of 2651 m.
Completed in 1915 and not very cheap with construction costs of about 30,000,000 marks.
A special feature was the construction of a cable car from the north portal over the Tiefenrother Höhe to the south portal.
Further information is provided by the board near the viewing platform.
