Leafy square
The village of Middenbeemster still reminds us of its rich history. The stately buildings that surround the leafy square in the middle of the village, and where the cattle market was organized. The local jeu de boules association was also here. A museum in the former parsonage recalls the eighteenth-century writer Elizabeth Wolff, who lived and worked here. The Beemster is unique in its form and was placed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1999.
