Directly behind the monumental Markermeerdijk is an area where time seems to have stood still: the Etersheimerbraak. Years ago, this unique piece of Low Holland was created by a dike breach in which the old peat layer was removed with great force.

This special landscape tells how wind and water shaped the landscape and how the residents kept their feet dry. Here you will find, at 6.6 meters below N.A.P. the lowest point in North Holland.

In the Archaeological Mini Museum De Waterwolf you can learn more about the story of the drowned village of Etersheim, the battle against the Zuiderzee and the formation of the landscape. You are very welcome at the De Breek Visitor Center for a snack and a drink!
