The “Hohe Buche” restaurant, also known as “Hackedorn”, was opened in 1957 by the Stuntz couple. They had previously acquired the property from the von Verschuer family. During the summer months, the guests were entertained at numerous tables outside, and inside the building, which was originally constructed of wood, there were a further 30 seats. In the beginning, the popular excursion destination was supplied with water from its own well, it was not until 1964 that a water pipe was laid. After 1967, the landlords rebuilt the restaurant in solid construction. The "Hohe Buche" remained in family ownership for more than 20 years, until the first change of ownership in 1980. One can only hope that the "restaurant with a view" - and it is really great up here - will be another destination for hikers and cyclists after Corona. A scenic rest area above the former tourist restaurant, right next to the country road from Solz towards the Bauhaus.
From here, you can enjoy beautiful views of the valley and the Rhön Mountains. From 1930 to 1937, there was a glider airfield here.
