Right next to the barbecue area is the chapel of St. Hubertus in Rübenhaible. An image of St. Hubertus, the patron saint of hunting, and a deer with a glowing cross between the antlers adorn the facade.

Hiking

The chapel right next to the barbecue area in Rübenhaible shows a depiction of Saint Hubertus, the patron saint of hunters. It was built by Franz Karle from Unterdigisheim and was probably consecrated in 1981. The old grotto, below the current chapel, was in need of renovation and was difficult to access for older people. The chapel was built at the same time as the Albvereinshütte in Rübenhäuble.

Saint Hubertus, to whom this chapel is consecrated "im Rübenhaible", lived from 655 to 727 and is a very popular saint, best known as the patron saint of hunters. A deer with a glowing cross between the antlers is said to have appeared to him, which is often depicted in Hubertus portraits - as here on the outer facade of the chapel. This legend was originally attributed to Saint Eustachius and over time it 'wandered' to Hubertus. His feast day in the saints calendar is November 3rd.
