Just a mile west of Liguerta Station RV Park is one of several sections where Interstate I-8 is the only road for hundreds of miles to cross the desert. Old Highway 80 merges with the interstate here, so bikes have to share the freeway (shoulder). Between Liguerta and Fortuna the split Interstate Freeway crosses the Fortuna Hills, before an exit to the Frontage Road offers an opportunity to continue on a safer road.
