The Prokopos Lagoon (also known as the Kalogria Lagoon) is a significant wetland. It lies nestled between the Ionian Sea, the renowned Strofylia pine forest, and the Black Mountains (Mavri Ori). The lagoon is an integral part of the Kotychi-Strofylia National Park and is internationally protected under the Ramsar Convention and the Natura 2000 network.
It covers an area of approximately 600 hectares and is very shallow, with a depth of only 0.5 to 1.5 meters.
A narrow channel, about 2.5 km long, connects the lagoon to the sea, while two small rivers supply it with fresh water.
